The Governing Body of Woodlands C of E Primary School is a group of parents, staff and members of the local community who oversee the running of our school. Each is passionate about the school and volunteer their time, away from their busy schedules, to act as a ‘critical friend’ to the school.
In addition to the full governing body which meets twice each term, there are two smaller ‘sub-committees’ to deal with different aspects of school management in more detail:
- The Standards & Effectiveness Committee, which focuses on the academic performance of the school, curriculum and child welfare matters; and
- The Resources Committee, which focuses on the school finances, the upkeep of the premises and staffing issues.
The governors also make regular visits to the school. In this way they get to know the staff, children and parents and are, therefore, better informed about the school they are responsible for overseeing.

The following people have been elected or appointed to represent you on the governing body:
My name is Amanda Wood and I have been a resident in Oakenshaw for over 20 years. I am somebody who values Woodlands CofE Primary Academy as an organisation and have done for many years, I have children that have attended (one now in secondary school) and one that is a current pupil. The school is somewhere I have been proud to be part of over recent years, and now, as a Governor, I look forward to my involvement in shaping the future development of the school and making sure the children have the best chance of success.
I have a love for the outdoors with my family and dogs, we love our bikes and we all share our love for the Coast.
My name is Ian Jennings. I am the vicar of St Andrew’s, Oakenshaw and Holy Trinity, Low Moor and I am an ex-officio governor at Woodlands school (which means as vicar of St Andrew’s being a governor comes with the job unless I decline it or pass it on). I am married to Sue, who is also a minister in the church of England, and have two grown up children, David and Ruth. I have lived in towns and cities all over England, but I was very pleased in summer 2014 to move back to the North because I love the Pennines. I love walking, rugged countryside, and the sea. I am passionate that people come to know and experience God’s love through Jesus Christ, (as you would expect!) and in the school arena I want every child to know their intrinsic worth irrespective of what our culture holds to be valuable, and to be self-assured, kind and to have high aspirations and wide horizons. I was a primary school teacher in a previous life (briefly an acting deputy head) and know enough with the other governors to help hold the school to account, which is part of the brief. My role on the governing body now it is to aid in matters to do with the Christian ethos of the school and corporate acts of collective worship. I like big picture stuff educational vision and conviction.
I have been Chair of Governors for over 4 years and a governor with 23 yrs experience. It has been my privilege to be involved with the school through its journey for the last 5 years and hope I have contributed to its ever improving status. My wife and I are are Long time Foster Carers for Kirklees with 3 children In our care. I am also a Governor at Fairfield Special School, a trust Director with Spen Valley Trust and Chair Of Governors at Wycliffe CofE Shipley which is also part of the same Trust (BDAT) as Woodlands.
Recently undertaken the role of Vice Chair having been on the governing body for three years. My professional background has mainly been focused around Finance, Human Resource and Management.
I have two children one of which is primary school age which originally brought my focus to the Governors role. I am passionate about ensuring that the provision of education of each and every child is the best it can be working hard to secure our schools mission statement.
I find the role exceptionally rewarding and look forward to growing my experiences further.
My name is Andrew Hooton. I joined the Woodlands Governing body at the start of 2020. I have been teaching since 2005 and I am an assistant head, Early Years teacher and lead as well as a specialist leader of education at another school within BDAT. With this experience sought the opportunity to contribute to the education of children through the governance of a school in a community not far from my own. My governing responsibilities are for Early Years Foundation Stage and Mathematics.
My name is Allison Kienlen. My son currently attends Woodlands school and my daughter attended Woodlands also (she is now at secondary school).
I joined the Governors and am currently Chair of governors, as I wanted to ensure my son receives the best possible education in the best possible environment and being involved I feel I am doing all I can to ensure all the children who attend Woodlands receive the best possible start along their educational journey.
I am a Swimming Teacher and teach in Leeds (including numerous schools). My interests include spending time with my family, exercising our horses and dogs, tennis, movie watching with the children and of course swimming.
